You may have heard of a study called PACT, which stands for Prehospital Airway Control Trial. This study is part of LITES. People who are included in studies like this are very sick and cannot give permission ahead of time to be part of the research. Instead, PACT and studies like it use a process called Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC).
